La Grange des Hirondelles is a converted milking parlour, and one of several detached barns on a former farm, situated alongside the owner's farm house.
It gets its name from the delightful swallows (hirondelles in French) that visit the area each summer to build their nests. In its original state the large
ceiling beams of the milking parlour had been the support for the nests of many generations of swallows. The walls are made of the local tuffault (limestone) stone,
and are 60 cms thick, which provides good insulation, and ensures that the inside stays cool even during the hottest of summers.
The gite is at the end of a private drive, which means that there is hardly any traffic noise, and that children can play safely.
The swallows have finally accepted that they can no longer use the gite, however they still build their nests each year in another barn on the property. This
is one of the many broods of baby swallows which have been born at La Grange des
Hirondelles. We like to think that, like many of our clients, these
swallows will be back again the following year.
During the conversion from the original barn into the gite, many of the original features were retained. The transformation has retained its rustic charm, but ensuring a high standard of comfort. Much of the original stonework has been exposed on the walls, and all the ceilings are beamed.
The large open plan aspect of the barn has been retained. This photo shows
the sitting room area, with the stairs to the first floor, and the front door
opening onto the main courtyard. The rooms are tastefully furnished, some
of the furniture being French antiques. The house has oil fired central heating.
It is a spacious and well lit gite, having over 120 sq metres of living space.
The sitting room area also has a large triple "porte fenetre" (french windows)
opening out onto the private drive way. On the other side of the drive way
you can see the large lawn, which is at your disposal, with views of the open
countryside beyond. Whether you want to play boules on the lawn, or simply relax
in the sitting room with a good book, you can be assured of peace and quiet at
La Grange des Hirondelles.
The large sitting room (45 sq metres), has a TV and DVD. There are two arm chairs, and a settee which can
convert into a sofa bed which can sleep two people. This photo shows a
part of the triple porte fenetre on the left, and shows the kitchen and
dining area beyond the sitting room.
The kitchen and dining area features a fully fitted corner kitchen, comprising an
under-worksurface oven, ceramic hob, fridge-freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, electric kettle, and electric coffee maker.
There is a dining table and chairs for six people. A high chair is
available for young infants. The wooden door at the
back of the kitchen leads into an utility room containing a washing machine,
clothes drying rack, and ironing board and iron. The double porte fenetre
on the right opens onto the sheltered patio and the courtyard.
The
spacious main bedroom is upstairs and contains a double bed, and a small single bed
suitable for a child. A cot is also available, which can be installed in either the main bedroom, or the downstairs bedroom.
The
second bedroom is at the end of the ground floor, and has two single beds. It opens out onto the patio and private courtyard.
