La Grange des Hirondelles is a converted milking parlour, and one of several detached barns on a former farm, situated alongside the owner's farm house.  It gets its name from the delightful swallows that visit the area each summer to build their nests.  In its original state the large ceiling beams of the milking parlour had been the support for the nests of many generations of swallows.  The swallows still build their nest in one of the other barns.

La Grange des Hirondelles is situated in the quiet hamlet of La Soultière, comprising of a dozen houses, which is 800 metres from the village of Bournan.

Bournan and its 13th century church, as seen from La Soultière.

The hamlet of La Soultière is on a rise, and from the gite and gardens you have unrestricted far reaching views over the countryside for approximately 300°.  For example, from the orchard you can see Cussay and Ligeuil, both of which are about 8 kilometres away to the east.  On summer moonlit evenings the views can be equally impressive.

The tiny village of Civray sur Esves, just a short walk  down the hill to the south of La Soultière.

To the west lies the village of Sepmes, about 4 kilometres away across open fields and woods.  Spectacular sunsets over Sepmes are a regular occurrence, and can be observed from the living room of the gite.

The Grange has its own large lawn (1000 sq m), and visitors can also share the peace and tranquillity of the owner's garden by the swimming pool, and the extensive orchard of cherry, apple, pear, nectarine, quince, plum, and walnut trees.

The swimming pool, which is in front of the owner's house, is 10m x 5m, with a maximum depth of 1.9m.  It is heated from June to September if necessary.

The area is renown for its wonderful Sainte Maure goat’s cheese.  Just a few minutes drive away, on the other side of the valley; you can purchase this cheese from a farm and also see the goats and other farm animals.

Delicious baguettes and croissants can be purchased from the village Boulangerie, and there are four large supermarkets, each at about 10 to 12 kilometres distance.

Other than the bar / restaurant in the village of Bournan,  there is an excellent choice of restaurants for all tastes and budgets within 15 minutes drive.

The owners love their life in the South Touraine; the unspoilt villages, the majestic chateaux, the Loire and other rivers that meander through the area, the excellent restaurants, and the local wines.  But most of all they love their home with its beautiful views, the orchard filled with bird song and the hum of bees from spring to autumn, and the timeless charm of the old stone buildings.  They feel sure you would love it too!
